ABSTRACT
A GaAs chip bonded on a copper heatsink plate has been investigated by developing a reflection type of infrared polariscope. It is for the first time found from the comparative birefringence observations of unbonded chips and bonded chips in which a large amount of strain is induced by die-bonding the chip on the plate.
