ABSTRACT
With the aim to clarify different causes of the degradation of laser diodes special preparation techniques for transmission electron microscopic investigations were developed. These techniques are based on precise metallographic preparation as a first step and ion beam etching controlled by scanning electron microscope or focused ion beam etching as the final preparation step.
