ABSTRACT

The paper describes two projects where mass- and cell stabilization has been used. The main purpose is to present properties from the field and also to report unsuccessful results so those similar mistakes can be avoided in the future. Two different installation techniques have been used in the projects. On Road 590 near Askersund, special equipment developed for mass stabilization has been used. Mixing is performed in the vertical and horizontal directions. In this case, clayey gyttja was stabilized to a depth of 2.5 m. On Road 272 near Holmsveden; cell stabilization was used where the columns were installed with overlap. The degree of coverage is 125% in 5 m of peat. In both cases, the quantity of stabilization medium was 150 kg/m3. Column tests and cone penetration tests were performed in the field. Samples were taken and analysed.
