ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces the main data-mining approaches and the works of researchers that applied them in the smart home context. It provides understandable material to exploit data mining for activity recognition in a smart home. The chapter discusses the subject to be used as a basis for further development and research. It discusses the general knowledge related to data mining. The chapter defines what it is and describes the main challenges related to research and application of data mining.
