ABSTRACT

This chapter presents novel contributions to theory and the surrounding knowledge-base through a new strategic procurement model. This model includes examples of technologies, design strategies, business models, and analytical methods needed to encourage innovation and inspire more circular and sustainable processes within the industry to improve sector resilience. A biomimetic future could quite easily be represented through a range of products and services, from city planning, through to infrastructure, governance, business models, and daily processes. Restorative and responsive buildings are also becoming much closer to realising a biomimetic future, where through such advances, living materials could respond to environmental stimuli and adjust their form and function accordingly. Building offsite and assembling on-site, although the appears to be a simpler process, is also a very intricate and complicated process to set up. The evaluation process included comparative evaluation of construction industry business models against non-cognate models used in other industries in order to gain multi-level understanding.
