ABSTRACT

People absorb new knowledge by visiting museums and it becomes a kind of leisure activity with learning significance. However, in traditional museum guide, regarding education or training of guides, it required great amount of manpower cost. Therefore, many large-scale museums began introducing new guide methods to improve the traditional one. In recent years, with the progress of technology, many mobile devices are employed in different educational situations. This study develops a museum guide system upon Global Positioning System (GPS). Based on handheld mobile device and mobile communication technology as well as teaching material of history of Tamsui Mackay, it allows learners to independently experience learning guide in different locations. They can thus freely engage in learning guide and profoundly absorb the historic relics and history related to Tamsui Mackay culture.
