ABSTRACT

Malaysia has various ethnic and Orang Asli communities. The Orang Asli community living in Lake Kenyir is the Orang Asli community of Semaq Beri. Their settlement is surrounded by forests. Semaq Beri is a community that still relies on forests for food and forest resources. This study was conducted to determine the taboos in the life of Orang Asli Semaq Beri communities that prevent them from being exposed to diseases. This study uses qualitative methods. During the fieldwork in the Orang Asli village, Hulu Terengganu, data were collected using observation and through a semi-structured interview. The findings show that there are various taboos in their lives. The prevailing taboo relates to their belief in supernatural powers.
