ABSTRACT

In this study, we analyze the trends and development prospects of urban settlements in Russia. The main methodology of the study was system analysis. However, methods such as comparative and statistical analysis, econometric modeling, and forecasting of demographic processes in Russia were also used. The most pressing problems in the formation of large, medium-sized, and small cities are identified. Zipf’s law is used to discover the patterns of urban resettlement prospects in Russia. Moreover, urban settlement patterns in several countries are compared. On the basis of the results of this study, the main trends in the transformation of the urban settlement system are revealed, and the prospects for the development of various types of Russian cities are outlined.
