ABSTRACT

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is a very important issue that needs to be addressed in hospitals and health care facilities. At Care Centre ABC (CCABC), most of the hospital staff at level 1 of the main building complained that they felt uncomfortable and cold due to the very low air-conditioning temperatures especially during non-peak hours. Five areas were selected based on the complaints from the staff due to IAQ problems especially the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system. For the study, environmental and chemical parameters such as air temperature, relative humidity, air velocity, Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and formaldehyde were measured using a 4-in-1 Meter Kit, IAQ Calc model 7545 and Z-300 Formaldehyde Meter. The average air temperature at level 1 and level 3 did not achieve the IAQ requirements at 21.1°C and 22.3°C, respectively. Therefore, it can be concluded that the mechanical ventilation system influences the IAQ in the CCABC building.
