ABSTRACT

In cases of uterine malignomas, the use of abdominal sonography enabled one to only investigate suspected areas, if anamnesis and results of clinical investigations were available. Endosonography provides a better visualization of the endometrial echoes. Vaginal sonography is superior to hysterosonography in estimating the localization and the extension of endometrial cancer, mainly because of the simple investigation procedure. Hysterosonography is usually carried out by means of slim rotating scanners with a 360 degrees transverse scanner (same scanners as for cystosonography). Stage I A cannot be evaluated by means of endosonography. Finally it should be stated that by means of endosonography in cases of known histologic diagnosis, the extent and boundary of the tumor can be assessed. Endosonography should be used as a basic assessment for the staging of uterine malignomas. Endosonography is a simple procedure with a high diagnostic value.
