ABSTRACT

Nerve conduction studies (NCS) and electromyography (EMG) are neurophysiological diagnostic tests of the nerves and muscles that are complementary to the neuromuscular examination. They are integral in localizing neuromuscular lesions, characterization of underlying pathophysiology, and determination of chronicity and severity of disease. This chapter provides a general review on how routine neurophysiology testing of the peripheral nervous system is performed and interpreted.
