ABSTRACT
In the integrated water hyacinth management system, utilization of water hyacinth biomass as animal feed on large scale in commercial production is desirable because animal feed always fetch good financial return on the market. After the problems in technical and economic aspects of harvesting and dehydration are solved, utilization of water hyacinth biomass for animal feed can be practised on large scale. Over the last century, many ideas on utilization of water hyacinth have been advanced all over the world. The biomass of water hyacinth was utilized as animal feed or leaf protein for cattle, sheep, geese, pigs, etc. (in either fresh or silage form). The literature suggests that water hyacinth biomass could be a good potential for animal feed based on the nutrient value of the dehydrated water hyacinth biomass.
