ABSTRACT

Sir Ernest Kaye Le Fleming began his medical career as a house surgeon and physician at St George’s in 1898, progressing to become an assistant surgical registrar. He was also the editor of the St George’s Hospital Gazette during his years there. Such was his passion for general practice, Sir Ernest published a book entitled An Introduction to General Practice in 1936 in which he set forth advice to students. Sir Ernest believed that all medical professionals should play an active role in societies to help form lasting relationships with fellow practitioners so to continue learning from each other long after qualifying. His interest in preventative medicine and the role lifestyle had upon health led him to be selected to chair the British Medical Association Report of the Committee on Nutrition in 1933, and the Report of the Physical Education Committee in 1936.
