ABSTRACT

Iona Caroline Heath became a general practitioner trainee in 1975 at The Caversham Group Practice in Kentish Town, London. With regards to the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), she sat the Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 1981, and was awarded the RCGP Fraser Rose Medal for achieving the highest mark that year. As a general practitioner trainer in 1989, and angered by the RCGP’s decision to suspend general practitioner training in North London, Heath wrote her 100-word nomination statement and entered for ballot for sitting on RCGP Council. Heath first chaired the Inner City Taskforce committee, hoping to increase the representation of general practitioners working in areas of deprivation on RCGP Council. She also chaired the Health Inequalities Group. Despite Heath feeling she had minimal experience in research, she was placed on the research committee when she first joined RCGP Council, which led to her attendance at her first international research seminar in Denmark.
