ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses two main challenges toward modeling-efficient and sustainable microgrids. The first challenge is managing large data sets generated by microgrids and the second one is integrating renewable sources in these systems. We also introduce basic optimization models for design and operation of microgrids from systems perspective. Inputs such as energy price and demand are fluctuating over time. Therefore, microgrid models should be able to respond to these changes promptly. Due to linear structure of proposed optimization models, optimal design, operation, and distribution of energy can be found in reasonable time.
