ABSTRACT

Psoriasis is one of the most common skin diseases and is often associated with psoriatic arthritis. Prevalence rates of psoriasis vary from 0.5% to 5% in different populations. The incidence of psoriatic arthritis among patients with psoriasis also varies widely, from 1% to 48%. Part of this variation is due to different classification criteria that have been proposed from time to time. The Classification Criteria for Psoriatic Arthritis (CASPAR) are presently the most commonly used classification criteria. Psoriatic arthritis is often missed in busy psoriasis clinics. Various screening tools with different sensitivities have been used to diagnose psoriatic arthritis. There is an increased risk of endothelial dysfunction and metabolic syndrome in these patients.
