ABSTRACT

After reading this chapter, the reader should be able to do the following:

Understand the complexity of selecting individualized eating disorder treatment

Be familiar with the empirically validated treatments for anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge-eating disorder

Recognize the process used by the American Psychological Association, Division 12 and National Institute for Clinical Excellence guidelines for validating various eating disorder treatment modalities

Explain the rationales and theoretical bases, including mechanisms of change, for a number of eating disorder treatments

Identify some of the emerging and alternative methods of treating eating disorders
