ABSTRACT

Chinese medicine is the science of healing based on the ancient philosophy of Taoism, Yin-Yang, and Five Phases. It provides a unique method of understanding human health, dysfunction, and disease through holistic approaches. Chinese medicine modalities include Chinese herbology, acupuncture, tuina, dietary therapy, and energetic exercises such as tai chi and qi gong. Chinese herbology is based on Chinese medicine's fundamental philosophies and theories and also utilizes its own unique principles. Tui Na is a special therapeutic method for external treatment based on the principles of Chinese medicine as well as acupoints and meridian theory. Chinese dietary therapy is a healthy way of eating based on an understanding of the different effects of food on the human body. Acupuncture is a healing art that employs Chinese medicine theory, especially Meridian Theory, to insert needles into acupoints, specific points on the body, accompanied with manipulation and/or stimulation with pressure, heat, light, or electricity.
