ABSTRACT

Aging can be defined as a natural phenomenon of growing matured, manifested by physiological and psychological alteration with time. The process of aging in humans is spontaneous and alters moderately with time. Morbidity, mortality, and quality of life are greatly influenced by improper nourishment as it may cause several chronic diseases. Status of health, physiological changes, and functional disabilities accounted due to aging are largely affected by nutritional choice and physical activity, which in broader extent affect the familial, social, and economic factors. In almost all countries of the world, the number and proportion of older persons aged 60 years or above are increasing and this progression is not likely to sustain soon. Diseases associated with the older population are mostly related to nutritional factors, many of which manifested since childhood. Advancement in medications and surgical techniques has increased the life span of individuals but they are often crippled by unfitness.
