ABSTRACT

The uses of enzyme technology in the processing of natural fiber and in the field of textile for modification are increasing substantially. Not only unwanted adsorbed material may be removed, but modification of the fiber surface may also be accomplished by enzymes. It means that the enzyme modification process could be able to enhance wettability without losing fiber strength. It could be explained that soft wood fibers are smaller than grain waste products. A broad range of aspect ratio was observed for grain waste products including soft wood fiber. In comparison with grain waste products, soft wood fibers are fibrous and longer. The enzyme modification process parameters, e.g., temperature, dosing rate, and duration were optimized in terms of weight loss of fiber. It was observed that due to modification, the selected peaks were either absent or broadened for all grain waste products. Some defects and holes were observed, but no fiber damage occurred by the enzyme modification.
