ABSTRACT
This chapter reviews briefly the principles of anaerobic digestion with special interest in innovative technologies to enhance the methane production. Biogas production from anaerobic digestion has been widely described in literature but this chapter wants to give a step forward focusing on two topics recently reported in literature and with special interest in the field of biogas production from waste biomass. Hence, special focus will be addressed to novel and low-cost pretreatments of sewage sludge to enhance methane production and the integration of biohydrogen production and methanogenesis in multiple systems.
