ABSTRACT
Light has fascinated humans since time immemorial. While we see huge advances today in relation to light and light-based technologies, one needs to remember that our advancements and understanding of light and optics are built upon accumulated contributions from all corners of the earth. In highlighting the importance of light in our lives today, it is useful to recall how some of the early contributions in understanding the role of light in our lives, for example, how we see, have come to pave the way towards later developments, inventions, methodologies and understanding in science and developments in technology that we still use today.
