ABSTRACT

The connections between social determinants of health, trade, economics, community development and globalization are also crucial areas to understand as a foundation for global public health training and practice. This chapter provides practical information regarding the preparation for the placement. It also seeks to provide global health trainees, such as yourself, with information on fundamental training areas for global public health. Additionally, it provides assistance in guiding the development of training programs in upcoming years, as gaps will be easily identified and provide guidance to students in areas they may seek to divert further effort in. Global health placements can provide many benefits, to either students or host institutions or potentially both. A study evaluated students who engaged in global health placements and found students value the opportunity to make cross-country comparisons, experience the role of international organizations and to learn concrete skills in project design, questionnaire formulation, qualitative and quantitative analysis and write-up.
