ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to give deep insight into IPTV technology with existing protocols, describing how to work with various protocol layers. It describes the literature explaining recent relevant IPTV research. The chapter also describes the concepts of IPTV network implementation as a part of the Optimized Network Engineering Tools (OPNET) simulator. OPNET has the capability to provide conversation pair traffic as a way to traffic modeling over the network that could be imported from outside sources. The chapter reviews the expected network performance based IPTV. It provides a set of experiments and scenarios each with a complete simulation focused on performance evaluation of the impact for each configured protocol on their operational environment. The chapter discusses network performance evaluation which is subjected to uncompressed video delivery at different data rates, highlighting the impact of compression not only on bandwidth saving but also on received video quality and quality of experience (QoE) on the user side.
