ABSTRACT

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology memorizes and recovers remote data by using radio labels called tags or transponders. So, the use of RFID technology as automatic identification and data capture technique via wireless radio frequency (RF) signals is raising crucial ethical issues. This chapter presents RFID technology, its standardization, and operation. It reviews its advantages and disadvantages and focuses on collision issues and ethical questions raised by possible misuse of RFID systems because of their rapid growth and wide applications. As with any commercial technology, there are several standards aiming to harmonize the RFID industry in order to facilitate market accesses and increasing sale volumes. RFID is a flexible technology, convenient, easy to use, and perfectly adapted to automated operations. RFID are also largely present in the financial activities. Among existing applications, RFID can identify the nature and quantity of merchandise in a store, with day-to-day updates about stock regulation and inventory.
