ABSTRACT

This chapter briefly reviews big data definitions and its related technologies. It provides an overview of knowledge discovery (KD) and data mining. The chapter presents the concept of supervised classification. It describes big data mining, discusses the related issues and challenges. The chapter explores some of current works of big data classification. In recent years, big data has become a hot research topic in many areas where storage and processing of massive amounts of data are required. Mining and discovering meaningful knowledge from big data for decision making, prediction, and for other purposes is extremely challenging due to its characteristics. KD is the process of extracting useful knowledge from huge volumes of data. Classification is one of the most common types of data mining, which finds patterns in information and categorizes them into different classes. Useful knowledge can be extracted from big data with the help of data mining.
