ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview on the modeling and simulation of human body motions to observe their micro-Doppler effect in radar and extract micro-Doppler signatures. It discusses the kinematic modeling of human motion and introduces a commonly used radar cross section prediction method. The chapter also discusses the modeling and simulation of through-the-wall radar signatures. It presents a number of applications of human motion signatures for the recognition of indoor human movements. A more practical method for capturing motion activities is to use computer-animated data gathered from motion data captured by active sensors to track animations of a skeletal representation of human body positions in a three-dimensional space. The kinematic model can be an empirical mathematical model, which is formulated as a set of empirical human motion equations and, thus, constructs a computer model of the human movement.
