ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the research work which is focuses on reducing power consumption by sensor nodes and increasing network lifetime. It utilizes a next-generation optimization heuristic of self-organizing migrating algorithm (SOMA), which has proven highly effective in solving real optimization problems. SOMA is a stochastic search algorithm that works on the principle of cooperation among the individuals in a social network. Wireless sensor networks are being used extensively due to advancements made in the development of sensor node devices, wireless networks, and electronics engineering. A multipath approach may be used, which provides multiple paths from the source to the destination for data transmission. The information-driven sensor query protocol in applications of tracking and target localization reduces the latency and power consumption by dynamically querying the sensor and dynamically routing. Evolutionary algorithms are stochastic searching algorithms that use the process of natural selection for optimization. Network lifetime can be improved to a greater extent by the proposed technique.
