ABSTRACT

The 5G and WLAN are two major technologies for wireless communication. The former provides a huge-range, high-portability, complete and safe record of accounting and the latter provides a limited-range, low-mobility, rapid transmission access on the Internet. The complementary between these two technologies cannot solely enhance the standards of wireless communication; however, it can provide choices for services to the clients to use the wireless application services irrespective of environment. The wireless technologies like WLAN and fifth-Generation (5G) mobile communication systems complement each other to support a variety of services suited for home, urban, and global environments. The handovers between these advancements need be transparent to the end clients, to permit an improved and consistent on-the-move roaming occurrence. For seamless mobility in 5G and WLAN networks, low handover authentication delay must be achieved. This chapter focuses on the problem of fast-handover when 5G and WLAN are interworking such as authentication and re-authentication. Regarding the heterogeneity of two technologies, we use universal subscriber identity module (USIM) to accomplish authentication procedure, and achieve safe mutual full authentication and handover re-authentication.
