ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors demonstrate IntelligShop, a novel location-based augmented reality application, for intelligent shopping in malls. They leverage both the shopping mall infrastructure of wireless networks for indoor localization and the World Wide Web for retailer content aggregation. With these networks, the authors manage to provide an immersive and informative shopping experience to the mobile users in the city. To the best of our knowledge, IntelligShop is the first indoor location-based augmented reality application that integrates heterogeneous-device wireless localization and automatic online content crawling for intelligent shopping. IntelligShop provides a good demonstration of: the usefulness of the ubiquitous network data and the nontriviality of turning the real-world network data into useful applications. Technically, the authors manage to address two challenging network data mining problems in IntelligShop: robust feature learning in the cold-start heterogeneous-device localization with the wireless network data and learning to query in the cold-start retailer content gathering from the Web.
