ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights big challenges facing social impact entrepreneurs and the social impact innovation ecosystem. It offers a snapshot view of the social and market potential that exists today in the social impact ecosystem. The chapter addresses some of the obstacles that must be overcome to further develop and scale impactful solutions that will future-proof your well-being and that of humanity. The Financial Crisis is largely known to be the most significant economic collapse since the Great Depression; many lives globally were impacted by financial ruin, jobs lost, and economies flattened. The work of the World Economic Forum also provides valuable insight for anyone trying to gain perspective on the big issues. Global business leaders are undertaking social impact commitments, going beyond corporate social responsibility and marketing efforts, to show added value to their customers and shareholders. Technology innovators are equally challenged when building social innovation solutions; and particularly when trying to reflect community values and localized objectives.
