ABSTRACT

This chapter is a general overview of the economic impact of both the presence and management of invasive species in the U.S. Please avoid detailed discussion or case studies of species included in species-specific chapters, although it may be possible to include species-specific examples with coordination with that chapter leader. Potential topics include: general discussion of economics of invasive species (avoid redundancy with Chapter 6); zoonotic and/or livestock disease costs (or disease prevention costs); food safety costs; costs associated with management of invasive species; costs to minimize risk of invasion (e.g., cargo monitoring, etc.).
