ABSTRACT

Natural gas engines have been used for many years as a primary power source in the oil and gas industry. Natural gas engines are also frequently found in areas where peak electrical power is required on a spot basis. In these instances, the engine will support a standby generator. Another growing area of interest for the use of natural gas engines is with the extraction of methane from landfill locations. Biogas is another area of interest in terms of energy production where natural gas engines can be employed. Natural gas engines are used in many different applications, either as a stand-alone unit or one that may be used to power an additional piece of equipment such as a compressor. Natural gas engines are generally operated at low speeds and under constant conditions. Natural gas engine oils are designed to provide many beneficial features toward the efficient operation of the equipment where it is used.
