ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the design scheme and design difficulties of the combined cold water storage and air-conditioning system as well as effective measures in the selection of AHUs and cold water storage system of a foreign-related oil fuel power plant in a hot and dry desert climate. A set of cost-effective combined cold water storage and air-conditioning system shall be applied, and its reasonable cooling and regulating strategies can help to shift peak loads to off-peak and realize energy-saving. The cold water storage technique applied in such project mainly takes the advantage of large temperature difference between day and night, and the system will produce and store cold at night and release it to terminal AHUs at daytime so as to remove the heat from the building. In addition, if the outside temperature is low enough, the fresh air need not to be cooled, and AHUs can be simply used as ventilation system.
