ABSTRACT

In the power collection system, the traditional way of registration has difficulty in meeting the requirements of service development because of the long registration time and reliability issue. This chapter presents an efficient and reliable meter registration method, which provides multiple parallel registration slots to accelerate the registration process. It also supports multiple-channel access modes as well as effective collision resolution mechanisms. The proposed registration mechanism is mainly implemented in the registration process by the collector to collect the information from downstream meters. The registration mechanism defines six kinds of messages, which are registration initiation, registration request, registration response, registration response confirmation, registration keep-alive, and registration keep-alive confirmation. The chapter is based on the understanding of the registration mechanism of the power collecting system, and proposes a more effective and reliable method for meter registration. In power collection applications, a collector commonly connects many meters.
