ABSTRACT

E-commerce based on Internet technology is an opportunity and a challenge for shipping enterprises. This chapter introduces the development of the e-commerce platform and its development history worldwide, as well as analyzes the status quo and existing problems of China’s shipping logistics enterprises’ e-commerce platform. E-commerce is often considered a business activity with the adoption of the microcomputer technology and the network communication technology. The electronic commerce of China’s shipping companies started late but developed rapidly. The e-commerce platforms were just introduced successively without any planning, which have different standards and technologies. Advantages of shipping e-commerce mainly lie in resource sharing and highly transparent data, especially in prices. Shipping logistics enterprises must attach great importance to the construction of corresponding human resources and determine scientifically and rationally talents problems that might be involved in the future through institutional mechanisms in a proactive manner.
