ABSTRACT
The present work attempts to discuss some issues concerning the potential relevance of the macroscopic features resulting from the alteration of stone applied in built structures to touristic activities. The discussion will be organized around two broad main categories: features that comprise a neutral or even positive mass change (stains and coatings) and features that are associated with mass loss (erosive features). The potential use of these alteration features as touristic elements is also discussed.
