ABSTRACT

Traditionally, heritage buildings have been examined from several perspectives: architectonic features, architectural style, archeology, history, structural engineering, chemistry, conservation guidelines, etc. Currently, technologies are available to facilitate registration in such a precise way that when possible they should be used; among such technologies, the most versatile for surveying buildings are photogrammetry and scanner laser. These two techniques are complementary, although a comparative study concerning the accuracy of each would be valuable. Here, we have used a more precise technique (structured light) to compare photogrammetry and scanner laser. This comparison was necessary because we were surveying the Royal Hospital in Granada, Spain (1511–1526), and for inaccessible areas with the scanner, photogrammetry was used.
