ABSTRACT

Wind has been used as an energy carrier since ancient times. Wind energy has long been used to generate a driving force for sailing ships. Wind energy is a converted form of solar energy, caused by the movement of air masses induced by irregular heating of the earth's surface. Approximately a quarter of this energy involves the movement of air masses directly adjacent to the surface of the ground. Wind turbines are usually used to produce electricity, but they can also be used to pump water, and to drain and irrigate fields. Wind-powered aerators can also be used at sites with a high oxygen demand, such as fishponds. Wind-powered devices can cater effectively to the high demand for various types of energy in agriculture as well. Modular systems should be developed in locations where the parameters of the wind turbine and actuating devices have to be individually selected and tailored to meet the users' specific needs.
