ABSTRACT

The article focuses on the issue of increasing the resilience of the system of air traffic operation in case of negative external impacts such as maybe weather, strikes, illegal acts etc. In case of minimizing the negative impacts of these external factors it is difficult for the management to reorganize the air traffic generally so as to be the least disturbed, and airlines would minimize the eventual loss. The article, to evaluate the resistance of air network, aims at using advanced techniques and adaptive and permanent strategies. Both methods have been applied to the network of European routes. The analysis showed that the adaptive strategy is preferable because it increases the connectivity of the European airline network. Moreover, if all airports had a small excess capacity of 5 percent at least, which could be used in case of threat and danger, up to 18 percent fewer flights would be cancelled.
