ABSTRACT

The objective of this research is to investigate the determinant factors of the degree of carbon disclosure using samples from 500 companies listed in FTSE Global Equity Index Series. The measurement of carbon disclosure is based on the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Global 500 Climate Change Report. The result of this study shows a significant positive correlation between social, financial, economic, regulatory/institutional, as well as environmental factors and the degree of carbon disclosure. There is a significantly negative correlation between the Environmental Performance Index (EPI), a proxy of environmental factor, and carbon disclosure. This study also finds that the social factor is the major factor in carbon disclosure.
