ABSTRACT

The adoption of technologies to facilitate learning and teaching has become widely accepted in higher education. At the same time, recent developments in emerging technologies have created a window of opportunity to offer affordable, high-quality education for everyone in ways never seen before and considered as disruptive to traditional education. Universities are under pressure to rethink the way they leverage technology to structure their academic programs in accordance with contemporary students’ needs, personal interests, social connections and industry demands. This chapter discusses these disruptive technologies, the action possibilities of these technologies, and their implementations in an evidence-based e-learning framework that responds to the challenges and new realities surrounding higher education.
