ABSTRACT

Mangrove and coral ecosystem damage has been a serious problem that must be solved, including that in the Kepulauan Seribu area. An integrated program between various society elements addressing this damage will therefore urgently be required. This research aimed at developing community-based media on environment education to overcome mangrove ecosystem and coral reef damage. Methods used were descriptive study with survey followed by Research and Development (R&D). Medias developed were the Environmental Education Community Network (EECN), namely https://www.eecn.or.id, and three guidebooks on environment education. The survey was done by an NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) conservationist, while the media were assessed by experts. The media was assessed on stakeholders, such as educators and community groups of mangrove and coral reef conservationists, and also on groups of colleges. Data was analyzed qualitatively. Based on the surveys it was found that conservation on mangrove and coral reefs in Kepulauan Seribu did not involve many people. The local people understand the importance of conservation and are interested to work on it. Yet, it has not been coordinated and needs other community groups. Expert testing of results showed that the book and the website developed needed improvements on some items, but overall they were fair. It can be concluded that the media developed were good criteria and addressed effectively the building up of cooperation between many sectors.
