ABSTRACT

Gender differences in mathematics achievement have received enough scrutiny in the fields of sociology, economics and psychology. This study seeks to explain the influence of gender differences on the achievement of students in mathematics. The data set in this study was drawn from primary data of a questionnaire which was administered to 162 grade 9 students in high school. This study used linear regression to describe the influence of gender differences on the outcomes of learning mathematics. The results found no substantial difference in scores statistically on the outcomes of learning mathematics between girls and boys, but girls have diverse scores and more at the top of the distribution by gender. Analysis on mathematics achievement based on the calculation of the National Examination finds that male students had higher scores than female students.
