ABSTRACT

The aim of this research was to investigate the relationship between the senior high school/vocational high school background of midwifery students and their Medical Generic Skills (KGM) on a microbiology course. The method used was a descriptive correlational method, with cross-sectional analytic study. This study involved students in the second semester of the 2015/2016 academic year. The independent variable was the background of their program in senior high school/vocational high school and the dependent variable was the average KGM score. The results showed that students with a natural science background at high school/vocational high school had higher scores compared with the ones that had social science, pharmaceutical and chemical analyst backgrounds. The relationship between the students’ backgrounds and their KGM scores was significant at the 5% test level.
