ABSTRACT

The radial force that stent structure can provide is a very important parameter of the stent design. Insufficient vessel wall support can result in significant recoil (the reduction of the vessel lumen), therefore, may lead to dangerous complications. In order to assess the stress development and deformations of the stent, the finite element method was applied. The FE analysis of the coronary stent crimping and inflation process was performed. The obtained results were used to prepare a relatively simple, parametric 3D numerical model that can be used in the optimization procedure to maximize the stent radial force.
