ABSTRACT

The structure of the sandwich composite footbridge of a 14 metre span length and U-shaped cross-section was analysed. Sensitivity analysis was performed to support the design process of this innovative object. Linear discrete sensitivity analysis was performed by means of finite element method. The influence of variation of several design variables i.e. thicknesses of inner and outer laminates on the mid-span deflection, assumed as state variable, was investigated. Three structural models were analysed assuming the laminate made of isotropic material (IZO1), orthotropic material (ORTO1) and orthotropic six layered material (ORTO6). The results were presented graphically comparing sensitivity analysis with parametric analysis.
