ABSTRACT

The paper presents imperfection sensitivity study of discretely supported steel shells with stiffeners. In general imperfections scaled from eigenmodes or weld depressions imperfections such as Rotter & Teng (1989) are used in shell design. However, for the analyzed shells with stiffeners such imperfections are not decisive in most cases. Different imperfection shapes are discussed for variable imperfection amplitudes. Correlation is proposed to the outcomes of laboratory tests made on specimens of the same geometry.
