ABSTRACT

Chapter 9, “Practical Methods to Solve Environmental Problems and to Reduce Risks,” presents a full range of voluntary actions to solve environmental problems internally. To avoid a lengthy contentious litigation, the authors discuss the implementation of alternative dispute resolution techniques. To avoid the harsh consequences of committing an environmental crime, the authors lay out strategy from their experience in dealing with federal and state authorities’ enforcement of environmental laws and regulations throughout the U.S. Finally, from three decades of experience creating environmental management systems, the authors discuss how these systems can be developed and implemented and be the subject of Environment, Social, and Governance Reports, also popularly entitled “Sustainability Reports.”
