ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a body of foundational, related work. From the Cognitive Psychology field, a theory of multiple modes of learning is described, with emphasis on nine of such modes: advice, declarative knowledge, goal analysis, worked-out examples, analogy, positive feedback, negative feedback, short-cuts and quantitative regularities. From the field of Linguistics, elements of pragmatics and dialogue processing are presented. From the field of Education, the importance and challenges of Computer Science education at multiple school levels are discussed. Finally, an overview of related research in the field of Intelligent Tutoring Systems is presented.
